Historical Dictionary of Western Sahara
by Anthony G. Pazzanita
Scarecrow Press 2006
521 pages

This thorough work on Western Sahara's history, historical figures, politicians, friends and enemies of the Polisario ++ is a must for everyone who want to learn more about Western Sahara, or for those who, from time to time, need a book of reference on this territory. The articles ranges from one line to a dozen pages. This book covers most of the topics you would expect on beforehand, but I miss articles on famous saharawi activists (Aminatou Haidar, Ali Salem Tamek, Brahim Dahane, Mohamed Daddach and so on).

There are two aspects about this historical dictionary which I really enjoyed: 1) The detailed and elucidate chronology (from 5000 BC-2005 AD) of Western Sahara. 2) The 64 pages long bibliography, displaying works with various topics such as archeology and prehistory, the saharawi refugees, economics, UN documents (1976-2005) and a lot more.

All in all: A great read and a great achievement by Pazzanita.

My comment: Haven't read it yet-looks interesting. Including a foreword by José Ramos-Horta.

International Law and the Question of Western Sahara (Hardcover)
by Karin Arts (Editor), Pedro Pinto Leite (Editor)

My comment: A collection of essays on various topics (f. ex. WS and the right to self-determination; sovereignty over natural resources; prospects of resolving the problem). Also with a historical background. Contributions from researches (mainly), journalists, politicians (including Frank Ruddy) - and the saharawi activist Aminatou Haidar. All well written. PS.
