LITERATURE FROM THE MOROCCAN PERSPECTIVE
MOROCCO AND THE SAHARA:
Social Bonds and Geopolitical Issues
(by Mohamed Cherkaoui, The Bardwell Press 2007)
My comment: The sociologist Cherkaoui tries to legitimize further occupation pointing at (amongst other "facts") the many marriages between moroccans and saharawis-more than 30 000 according to the writer. To him this is a proof of the close, historic bonds between the two peoples. The majority from both sides want co-existence within Morocco. But why then are Morocco, since 1992, terminating the UN-process of having a referendum in Western Sahara? Why not give the saharawis the opportunity to speak out, Mr. Cherkaoui? Hm... Is there something rotten in the state of Morocco?
